Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian would be a perfect fit for his attempts on rebuilding the team defensively ahead of the new campaign.
According to The Sun, the current Azzurri manager is keen to bolster the Blues defence this summer and is hopeful of luring the former Torino player to Stamford Bridge with him.
Despite only signing for Manchester United last summer, the 26-year-old’s possible transfer to West London could be seen as a kickstart to Conte’s Chelsea transformation.
At the moment the player and the manager are working together in France, as the former Juventus manager has identified Darmian as one of his key players in Euro 2016.
The Italy international has already been linked with an exit from Old Trafford, as the player doesn’t seem to be in José Mourinho’s plans for next season.
Darmian was included as a makeweight with extra cash in United’s offer to land Juventus star Paul Pogba to Manchester.
The Blues are also keen to sign the highly-rated Frenchman, and have also been linked with moves for Juventus full-back Kwadwo Asamoah and Napoli center-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
Darmian can play as a full-back or a wing-back, which he does under Conte for Italy’s national team.
