Club president vows Atletico Madrid close to sign Diego Costa

Atletico Madrid chief Enrique Cerezo has denied the transfer speculation linking the club to moves for Gonzalo Higuain, Carlos Bacca or Mauro Icardi, as he’s adamant that Diego Costa is the striker they want.

The Chelsea forward has reportedly handed a formal request to complete a return to Vicente Calderon, as the new Blues boss Antonio Conte hasn’t been able to turn Costa’s sight away from his favoured La Liga return.

Diego Costa hasn't really found himself happy in England, and wants a return to Spain.

According to AS, Cerezo gave an exclusive interview for Gazzamercato on Monday, and he confirmed that their efforts on re-signing Costa are “close”.

Bacca is a great player but we are not going to sign him. We are not going to sign any striker from Serie A, the same goes for Higuaín and all the other players that have been mentioned.

His (Mauro Icardi’s) name is not on our agenda [either], we aren’t going to enter negotiations for him.

We like him (Diego Costa) a lot, I admit it. We have spoken to the player and we’re working to bring him back to Madrid. It’s close, but I can’t say any more than that.
