Loftus-Cheek: I have a new role as striker and it’s exciting

Chelsea youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek is desperate for more playing time and is reportedly ready to do his everything for new boss Antonio Conte, Goal claims.

The 20-year-old was fielded as a striker in Conte’s first game in charge last Saturday, and came on from the bench to play right behind recently signed Michy Batshuayi scoring a goal in Chelsea’s 3-0 hammering over WAC RZ Pallets tonight.

Chelsea recorded their first win this summer against RZ Pellets in a 3-0 victory.

During Chelsea’s week-long training camp in Austria the former Italy boss has been impressed by Loftus-Cheek’s performances in the training and the England U21 international is now ready to do his everything to get more time on the pitch.

I am playing in a striker role at the moment, which is different. It was the first time I played there, so there is a lot to get used to about the role and how the boss wants us to play. It is exciting.

Loftus-Cheek is also ready to compete for a place in midfield against new signing N’Golo Kante.

Loftus-Cheek made most of his appearances for The Blues last season playing in deeper midfield, and he still believes he has the ability to compete from that spot with Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, John Obi Mikel and new signing N’Golo Kanté.

I am just looking to play as much as I can. I will ask the boss what he wants from me and try to do what he asks. I will be myself on the pitch and try and play how I play as that’s what has got me here.

I think I can do a job in midfield as well, I told the boss I will play where he wants me to play. It is not a problem if he wants me to play as a striker, I will play there. At the moment I just want to be playing games.

Frank Lampard is Loftus-Cheek’s biggest idol in football as he wants to follow his footsteps during his career.

The youngster has been idolizing the top goalscorer in the history of Chelsea Football Club, Frank Lampard, and hopes to rank up to his ability of scoring goals just like his hero.

I look to Lampard a lot. Lampard being at Chelsea [when I was younger] and being a goalscoring midfielder, he was the player I looked up to. I started off deep in midfield and ended up moving up the pitch as my career developed.

Loftus-Cheek made 16 appearances for Chelsea last season, and the starlet is hoping to establish himself even more next season.
