David Luiz signs for Chelsea

Chelsea have completed the signing of Paris Saint-Germain center-back David Luiz in a £34m deal, as the player’s move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and completing the medical, the club have announced.

The reports linking the 29-year-old defender with a move back to Chelsea started yesterday, as Antonio Conte had to act and make the most out of the final moments of this summer’s transfer window.

David Luiz, who Chelsea signed from Portuguese side SL Benfica on a €25m deal in 2011, made a £50m switch to the French multimillionaire club PSG two years ago, but has now decided to return to the English soil after being left out of this season’s first-team plans by new PSG manager Unai Emery.

The furry-headed Brazilian won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup trophies during his first spell at Chelsea, and has remained as a big favourite for both fans and the owner Roman Abramovich, due to his great passion and influence leading the club to European glory in 2012 and 2013.

Despite wearing the shirt number 32 during his time in France, he’ll probably be wearing the number six on his back, as his previous number four is in the use of Cesc Fabregas’s.
