Despite landing David Luiz and Marcos Alonso to their defensive ranks at the end of this summer’s transfer window, Chelsea are keen to sign Lazio center-back Stefan De Vrij in January.
According to Daily Star, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a huge fan of the Dutchman, as The Blues were already after him before clinching the deal for Luiz.
It’s reported that Chelsea even had a £34m bid for De Vrij rejected by the Italian outfit this summer.
Claims in Italy say that the 24-year-old himself is keen to stay at Lazio, but that won’t end Chelsea’s pursuit for the promising center-half.
He has featured in all three matches of the campaign this season, and also scored one goal for the goods.
Chelsea are also waiting on the return of 21-year-old Kurt Zouma, who suffered an ACL tear on his knee in February.
The Frenchman won’t be returning until the start of October, and since the skipper John Terry will also be missing Friday’s game against Liverpool, newly re-signed David Luiz is expected to make his second debut in the West London side’s back four.
