Conte: ‘Alonso to get his chance’

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has tipped Chelsea’s new signing Marcos Alonso to make his debut for the club in the Blues’s EFL Cup match against Leicester City on Tuesday, IBTimes reports.

Despite keeping the fans in suspense considering last summer’s long break from signing new players, Chelsea succeeded to add two new defenders to their ranks on the deadline day of the transfer market.

In addition to re-signing David Luiz on a £30m deal from Paris Saint-Germain, the Blues announced move for Alonso from Fiorentina after the Serie A side accepted a £23m bid from the West London side.

Alonso is naturally a full-back, preferring to play on the left, but can also perform in a role of a center-half or a left-midfielder.

Conte suggested Tuesday’s League Cup meeting with The Foxes could be “a good opportunity to see him [Alonso]” to make his first start for Chelsea.

Before the EFL Cup’s third round clash against the Premier League holder Leicester, Conte’s side will face Liverpool on Friday at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea captain John Terry is out due to an ankle ligament injury, and will be replaced by David Luiz, who will make his second debut in the Blues outfit after spending two years in France.
