Chelsea have been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Isco by Spanish transfer outlet Don Balon.
The Spanish midfielder is unsettled at Real Madrid after years of being on the periphery. The fact that Zinedine Zidane’s “BBC” front line is fixed means that Isco has to play in the midfield three. However now that Luka Modric is back from injury, along with Zizou’s favourite Casemiro, space is limited there too. Once Toni Kroos returns from his own fitness issues, Isco will find himself back at square one.
The former Malaga man put in a sterling performance in the Madrid derby last weekend as a number ten, reminding teams that may be interested in buying him exactly what he can do when used correctly.
The rumours may not have any real substance to them; but it really would be a dream move for Chelsea. Isco is exactly the sort of technical central midfielder that Antonio Conte’s squad will lack when Cesc Fabregas leaves, as seems inevitable now. Isco would provide all the creativity and flair that his Spanish teammate does, along with far more grit and physicality in the middle of the pitch.
Let’s hope that there’s something to this one.
