Kalidou Koulibaly still a no-go for Blues

Most Chelsea fans will have given up on the idea of signing Kalidou Koulibaly long ago. After an entire summer spent chasing him, the club came up empty handed on transfer deadline day and was forced to move their sights onto David Luiz.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis even admitted on camera to turning down a £51m bid from us for his prize defender, so at this stage being told that he’s not for sale seems a little redundant.

In any case, that’s what the Gazzetta della Sport are reporting, adding that Everton are also now in the mix for the centre back.

It’s not surprising that Ronald Koeman is interested in signing a defender – especially given Phil Jagielka’s recent performances. But given the resistance we encountered over the summer, they shouldn’t hold their breath unless they’re willing to pay out £70m+…

Perhaps resisting the temptation to splash huge money on Koulibaly will turn out to be a blessing in disguise, especially considering how well David Luiz has done since coming in as second choice.
