The Willian to Manchester United rumours that circled the internet after Jose Mourinho arrived at Manchester United in the summer have been shown to be what they always appeared to be: total nonsense.
Having harvested plenty of clicks telling people the deal was on, Goal are now doubling down in the other direction, claiming “a source” has told them that there’s no truth to it.
It never appeared that there was – the connection was a simple “manager goes to new club, which old players might he want to bring?” and Mourinho favourite Wilian was an obvious choice, having kept his form as every other player appeared to lose faith in the Portuguese last season.
A flicker of fear of losing the Brazilian was sparked by the way he has lost his place to Pedro in recent weeks, so it is a relief to have word from the source that there’s nothing to the rumours.
