According to reports in Spain, Chelsea are aiming to beat Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham in the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Isco, as they plan to double his wages should he move to Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international hasn’t really got the chance to establish himself after making a move from Malaga to Santiago Bernabeu in 2013. This season the 24-year-old has risen up in Zinedine Zidane’s pecking order by scoring two goals in 11 league outings, but it’s still unsure whether Los Blancos are planning to offer him a new contract, as his current deal expires in 18 months.
United and Spurs have both been long admirers of the player, but Spanish media outlet Diario Gol see Chelsea as the player’s likely destination, with the West London club willing to double his salary.
This could put pressure on Real Madrid to make sure Isco pens a new deal with the La Liga giants.
Isco for sure is a talented player, but he lacks the defensive attributes that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte may require from his central midfielders. It will be exciting to see whether the rumours come true.
