Chelsea and Shanghai SIPG have today become to an agreement over the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Oscar, the club have announced on their official website.
It’s reported that the Chinese Super League side will be paying as much as £60m for the 25-year-old – a new club record – with the move set to happen on January 1st when the winter transfer window opens.
Since arriving to Stamford Bridge as a summer signing from Internacional in 2012, the tenacious and skilful attacking midfielder helped the Blues win the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup trophies.
He made his full debut against Antonio Conte’s Juventus in 2012, scoring two beautiful goals in an even 2-2 draw at the Bridge. He was able to find the target 38 times in his 203 appearances for the West London side.
Oscar started the season in a slightly deeper role than usually, but after the switch to a two-man midfield in the 3-4-3 formation, his chances became limited. It’s believed that the lack of playing time made the Brazil international seek for a new opportunity.
The deal is the seventh biggest ever in world football behind Paul Pogba, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez.
