The Daily Telegraph, citing German paper Bild, have suggested that Chelsea want to sign former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker, who was the thorn in the Blues’ side over many clashes with the Red Devils, would be available for an eye watering £34m according to the German press.
It seems a very steep price to pay for someone who would ultimately be a backup to Diego Costa. One could also raise questions over the suitability of his style as a replacement for the Brazilian. “Chicharito” is a very clever player but wouldn’t be able to lead the line in the same way as Diego.
In fact, having had so many years on the bench at Old Trafford before being able to establish himself as first choice at Leverkusen, one must wonder whether it’s a move that Hernandez himself would be interested in.
Let’s put this one in the pile marked “very unlikely” for now.
