Since his £80m move from Tottenham to Real Madrid, Gareth Bale has become undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest forwards, and is now linked with a mind-boggling £172m move to Premier League leaders Chelsea.
The Welsh international signed a contract extension with the La Liga side last year, which is worth £350,000-a-week and planned to keep him at Santiago Bernabeu until 2021.
Regardless of the new deal his stellar performances and exponential rise to the top of world football keeps him constantly linked with a move back to England, and according to Spanish media outlet Don Balon, both Chelsea and Manchester United are prepared to pay his £172m buy-out clause to land him this summer.
Bale is currently very happy in Spain and has for example helped Real Madrid to triumph two Champions League titles inside the last three years, but his inability to outshine the team’s star man Cristiano Ronaldo could be pulling him back to England to become some other club’s talisman.
United have been targeting Bale since his starlet days back in Southampton, while Chelsea are looking to invest Oscar’s £60m move to China to a good use.
