Chelsea vice-captain Gary Cahill is likely to be rested for the FA Cup tie against Brentford this Saturday, as his clash of heads with Hull City defender Ryan Mason left the player distraught last Sunday, Evening Standard reports.
The England skipper is the only Blues player to start each and every single game of the season so far, but his stellar streak could be coming to an end this weekend should the Italian boss Antonio Conte decide to leave him out of the starting eleven.
Ryan Mason, who was more of the victim in the accidental challenge of the two English defenders, was carried away on stretches and sent to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a skull fracture, but he’s reportedly doing an extremely good recovery, which is obviously great news for the player, his family and the team.
Alongside Cahill, who also scored Chelsea’s second goal in the 2-0 win over the Tigers on Sunday, Chelsea’s usual back-three of him, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta could be completely reorganized for the West London derby this weekend.
Chelsea will be in need of fresh legs for next week’s back-to-back Premier League games against Liverpool and Arsenal, which could put loan returnee Nathan Ake, injury returnee Kurt Zouma, captain John Terry and often out-casted Branislav Ivanovic on the look-in for the starting spot.
