Chelsea approach AS Monaco for £25m midfielder

Chelsea have made a ‘serious approach’ on AS Monaco over the sale of midfield powerhouse Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to reports in France.

The 22-year-old has also been eyed by Premier League sides Manchester City and Manchester United, with Monaco already linked with a replacement for the player in LOSC Lille’s Soualiho Meite, as the Frenchman is looking very likely to leave the club this summer.

Monaco have set a price-tag for him in the region of €30m (£25.5m), but if all the clubs interested in him show true desire to sign Bakayoko, a bidding war could emerge.

Bakayoko has been a key player in Monaco’s title charge this season, having started 18 of the 24 league games this season, also bagging two goals to his name.

Monaco are currently sitting on top of the Ligue 1 table with Paris Saint-Germain only behind by goal difference.

Chelsea currently have three quality midfielders in Nemanja Matic, N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas in the centre-midfielder ranks, but it’s believed that Antonio Conte will be pushing for at least one new addition next to them this summer.
