Today’s Metro carries a story about Marco Verratti.
The paper claims that “reports in Spain” have said that the masterful midfielder would be available for just £70m, although they don’t provide the origin of these “reports”. This astonishingly low price could well be less than Chelsea the amount earned from selling Oscar and Branislav Ivanovic.
The sources in Spain are, of course probably more focused on a poential move for Verratti to Barcelona, but any theoretical price tag that PSG have put on their midfielder would also apply to Chelsea.
The reality of the situation is that PSG are under absolutely no pressure to sell. They don’t need to raise any money through transfers and their team is finally reaching the level of a true perennial contender for the Champions League. There aren’t many, if any replacements for Verratti on the market, so selling him would just make their side worse.
Unless Marco forces his way out, even £700m is unlikely to do it. For now, we will have to keep dreaming, Blues fans.
