Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, report The Sun.
Koulibaly has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A since moving to Italy from Belgian. His combative defensive style, aerial prowess and classy ball-playing ability have seen rise head and shoulders above many of his defensive counterparts.
You could certainly envisage the Senegalese slotting into Antonio Conte’s back-three, and is likely for that reason that the Chelsea boss is keen on securing his services.
The Sun believe that C0nte is extremely keen on adding Koulibaly to his squad. The tabloid note that Chelsea already had a £58million offer rejected in exchange for the Napoli star in the summer transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will increase that offer in the summer, but they’ve been offered major encouragement if they are planning to do so.
The Sun quote Koulibaly’s agent, who refuses to confirm if his client will be at Napoli next season:
“At the moment, we don’t want to talk about his future but with a president like this who has a lot to say, it is difficult for us to affirm 100 per cent that he will be staying at Napoli next season.”
