Chelsea favourite urges wonderkid to come to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea favourite Pat Nevin has urged Billy Gilmour to join his former club to continue developing his exceptional talent.

Nevin was in a similar position when he joined the Blues as a young flying winger directly from Scotland, and it worked out pretty well for him.

While the Scot accepts there are issues with Chelsea’s loan system not developing players that can make it into the first team, he also points out in the Daily Mail that even the players who don’t make it at Stamford Bridge do well at the clubs they end up at: just look at John Swift and Josh McEachran for example.

Meanwhile Andreas Christensen and Tammy Abraham are among the players doing exceptionally well on loan this term. Even if they don’t make it into the first team at Chelsea, they will go on to have great careers thanks to the way they have been developed by the loan system.

Gilmour should back himself like Nevin did and try his luck south of the border.
