Antonio Conte planning bargain swoop for Real Madrid star

Antonio Conte is reportedly enquired Real Madrid over the availability of centre-back Pepe, whose contract at Santiago Bernabeu is set to expire at the end of the season, according to reports in Spain.

The Sun claim Pepe has been offered a one-year deal at the club, but the 34-year-old has put the talks on hold since his wish for a two-year contract has been turned down.

The Portugal international thus looks almost certain to leave the La Liga side at the end of the season, and Conte’s Chelsea have stepped in to make an enquiry for the player.

Chelsea also face competition from reign Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, with a possibility to make a big-money switch to China also being an option for the veteran defender.

Real Madrid fought a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid last week and Pepe was first one in the score-sheet, putting in a solid performance that well reminds people who’ve doubted his abilities for his age.
