Chelsea chase Sporting prodigy with €25 release clause

Jorge Mere has become the latest defender to be linked with Chelsea as the summer transfer window approaches.

The talented young Spaniard has been featuring regularly for Sporting Gijon this season in La Liga, and has attracted interest from across Europe for his league performances as well as his international games with the Spanish youth sides.

He made 24 league appearances for Gijon last term, and has already racked up that many this season too, meaning he is exceptionally experienced for a player of his age.

The Metro claims that the Premier League leaders have been interested by the £25m release clause in the defender’s contract, and will consider an offer this summer.

With John Terry’s deal unlikely to be renewed the Blues are on the lookout for more defenders, although many Chelsea fans would prefer to see Andreas Christensen get a shot in Antonio Conte’s team when he returns from a two year loan at Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.
