All the pieces seemed to be falling into place for a Romelu Lukaku move to Chelsea: the player declined to sign a new contract at Everton after having previously indicated he would. The forward has always been clear that he was ready to leave Everton for a Champions League competitor should they come in for him.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s top dog up front Diego Costa has been pushing for his own exit, flirting with a move to China in January and continually hinting at his disappointment with the weather in England.
The Brazilian’s recent form has been awful, clearing the way yet further for a massive move.
However there is still one potential issue: the £100 price tag that the Liverpool Echo claim the Toffees have slapped on their striker. It’s an eye watering fee that could price even Chelsea out of a move. Given the upgrades that Antonio Conte’s team need all over the pitch, they simply might not be able to justify such a massive outlay on one player.
