Chelsea star to be handed bumper deal to ward off Real Madrid interest

Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois is reportedly set to be handed a huge contract extension to stay at Stamford Bridge for at least a year longer, as the club are trying to cool Real Madrid’s persistent interest on the player, Daily Mail reports.

The Belgium international currently earns £120,000-a-week and is tied to the club until 2019, but with the Spanish giants being a long-term admirer of Courtois, Chelsea will need to act to make sure he won’t be leaving the West London side this summer.

The 24-year-old isn’t the only goalkeeper tipped to replace Keylor Navas as the Galanticos’ first-choice shot-stopper, as Manchester United keeper David De Gea – who also moved to the Premier League from Atletico Madrid – is also being strictly monitored.

Chelsea will have a big summer ahead as in addition to signing new players, they’ll also have a big task to retain their star players over to the upcoming campaign.

So far Chelsea have already been linked with possible contract extensions for Courtois, Eden Hazard and loan star Tammy Abraham.
