Eden Hazard’s fractured ankle has meant that a rumoured move for Leicester winger Riyadh Mahrez is suddenly much more feasible.
The winger has told the hierarchy of the Foxes that he wants out of the the club after a season which saw him largely disappoint following an exceptional breakthrough year in Leicester’s title winning team.
The Algerian was rumoured to be joining the Blues last summer after being pictured with the newly appointed Conte in a restaurant, but the connection turned out to be coincidental.
The Blues now need cover for their wounded star, who looks set to miss the whole of preseason and potentially the first few Premier League games too.
Mahrez undoubtedly has the technical ability to play for the new Champions, but whether he would be up to the standards of hard work required by Antonio Conte is uncertain. The fee Chelsea would have to pay will also be a major factor.
