Chelsea chase Man City keeper as Begovic replacement

Chelsea are interested in bringing in Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero to replace Asmir Begovic as their backup, according to the Evening Standard.

City themselves today confirmed the signing of a new first choice keeper – the exceptionally talented Ederson joins from Benfica for a sum believed to be around €35m. This means that Willy is surplus to requirements in Manchester after a season that saw him both win and lose his place in the side.

While the Argentine is not on a level with Begovic, getting goalkeeper that played for a top team last year as your backup is definitely a good thing, and Chelsea will be able to sign him for nothing as his contract expires this summer.

They won’t be the only ones after him though, and many of the other suitors will be able to offer him first team football as an incentive. Newcastle are also apparently interested in Caballero, although their priority is old Rafa Benitez favourite Pepe Reina.
