How Chelsea’s transfer plans were surprisingly changed

Cesc Fabregas will stay at Chelsea despite previously having been for sale after a late season turnaround for the former Arsenal man.

The Metro claims that up until the end of the season, Cesc Fabregas was earmarked to be part of the grand clear-out that saw Branislav Ivanovic, Job Obi Mikel, Oscar, Asmir Begovic and John Terry all leave this season.

The Spaniard was as definite second choice to Nemanja Matic in midfield, and at 30 years old still had enough value to be a worthwhile sale.

But towards the end of the season, with Chelsea wobbling slightly, Fabregas proved his value with some great performances coming off the bench and some impressive starts, providing a timely reminder to Antonio Conte of his quality.

It seems those games were enough, and the Spaniard will now remain part of the setup at Stamford Bridge, unless a seriously large bid is received by the Blues.
