Pasalic spent last season on loan with Italian giants AC Milan, making 24 appearances and scoring five goals. His previous two seasons as a Chelsea player were spent on loan at Elche and Monaco.

The 22-year old was part of Chelsea’s squad that toured Asia as part of their preseason schedule. His addition to the squad was decided on by manager Antonio Conte who clearly lacked the quality in numbers.

Chelsea have lost Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this summer but he happens to be the biggest star among a host of midfielders the Blues have let go.

Nathaniel Chalobah departed to Watford, Ruben Loftus Cheek was loaned out to Crystal Palace while new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko is out injured.

Pasalic was added to Conte’s numbers in midfield during preseason now leaves the club but opens up space for more summer arrivals.

Chelsea seem keen on adding to the Italian manager’s options next season.

England trio Danny Drinkwater, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Ross Barkley have been heavily linked to Chelsea to leave Leicester City, Arsenal and Everton in recent days.
