”It is a possibility” – Former Blues striker hinting at Chelsea return

Former Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Stamford Bridge one day.

According to the 22-year-old Olympique de Lyonnais striker, he would have loved to stay at the Blues if he only had been guaranteed regular playing time at the first-team. That, however, was something that manager Antonio Conte could not promise, and Traore decided to leave once the Ligue 1 side made their offer.

The Burkina Faso international moves to Lyon on a permanent deal, but according to last summer’s transfer reports, Chelsea do have a buy-back option on his contract.

Traore says that he had to make a big decision regarding his future when he received the chance to move to another club, but is pleased to have joined Lyon last summer.

Going from Chelsea was the best decision for me. I am enjoying myself.

As a young player you can only improve if you are playing every week. I enjoyed my time at Chelsea and when I had opportunities to show what I could do on the pitch, I took them with both hands. But there weren’t any guarantees I would play.

I would be happy if it was me in the Chelsea first-team playing every weekend, but this is football and you have to take decisions. Along with Chelsea, I took the decision to sign for Lyon and I am happy with that.

When asked about the possibility of following the footsteps of the likes of David Luiz and Didier Drogba, Traore said he doesn’t want to rule out a comeback to his beloved club.

Why not, it is up to me to develop and progress as a player and prove that I am good enough to play in the Premier League.

Others went back, it is a possibility. I have to focus on Lyon, do my best and see what I do in the future.
