Chelsea put in a terrible performance last night when they visited AS Roma for their second league fixture against the Italians on the Champions League group stage.
The Blues found themselves trailing the game after just 38 seconds of play, as a Stephan El Shaarawy brace and a great Diego Pierrotti strike eventually buried Chelsea 3-0 on Tuesday evening.
According to summer signing Antonio Rudiger’s post-match interview, the Blues were unable to believe in a comeback after they went 2-0 down on the first-half, claiming the Blues ’gave up’.
It’s hard to find words, if you concede after one minute, it’s hard to tell, really hard to tell.
You can lose, but in a proper way, we gave up after the 2-0.
We didn’t believe in it [coming back], the minds were down, the heads were down, a really disappointing evening, we have to say sorry for the fans who came with us for such a disappointing performance.
– Antonio Rudiger, via Metro
Chelsea certainly didn’t enjoy their greatest of nights against Roma, who are now on top of the Group C with one point’s seperation to Antonio Conte’s side.
Chelsea will be returning to action on Sunday evening when they face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. The Red Devils have only lost one game this term, and the Londoner side will need to close the gap between them in hope of retaining the Premier League title this season.
