It may sound ludicrous but ahead of a busy summer of transfers and managerial merry-go-round, many of these reports are likely to fill the media landscape, as a radio station in Napoli says Maurizio Sarri and Antonio Conte could swap roles next summer.
Football Italia quote Napoli’s official radio, Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as saying the Italian club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Conte to replace Sarri who has ruined the mood in Napoli following the latest defeat in the Serie A that hands over the title to Juventus. Napoli failed to win against Fiorentina last weekend and now are four points off Juventus in the standings with three games to go.
The report also says Roman Abramovich is eyeing Sarri to replace Conte as he seeks to fight tooth and nail with the new attacking trend in the Premier League among the top clubs.
The Telegraph had reported earlier that Conte was certain to leave Stamford Bridge next summer, due to the poor title defense Chelsea put up this season, and now Football Italia suggests Abramovich is ready to fork out £7 million for Sarri to move to London, as well as pay the Conte well over £9 million is he is sacked.
Although that sounds crazy, Chelsea’s top officials have shown they can do just about anything to get the best out of their side every season.
Some Chelsea fans are against the idea, as they believe Conte has shown he can win titles with his three in the Serie A and one in England, while Sarri has won no titles in his time at Napoli since 2015.
