Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer with his compatriot Maurizio Sarri expected to be named next manager at the club, and if reports are true, the Italian legacy would continue with Gianfranco Zola tipped to be in his backroom staff.
The Blues are still working out the details in Sarri’s release clause and may announce the Napoli manager in the coming days, but some of the details Sarri would serve Chelsea would be who would make up his backroom staff.
Football Italia reports that Sarri’s current supporting staff will be staying at Napoli and would not move with their boss to London as they decide to remain in Italy. The report also mentions Tuttosport as saying Sarri is keen to reunite with a few Italian faces including former Empoli assistant manager Giovanni Martuscielloas well as former Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola.
That should excite some Chelsea fans who have been clamoring for some of their legends to be well embedded in the structure of the club. Zola, very much a legend after his playing days in the latter years before Roman Abramovich took over the club, is very well respected by the club’s fans and would be a welcome addition to the Stamford Bridge dugout.
