Chelsea have arguably one of the finest youth systems in the world with their academy teams beating top class rivals on route to domestic and European domination.
Their dominance has merited the titles they have won. Just last season the Chelsea youth side won the National League, Youth FA Cup and were in the final of the UEFA Youth League.
Several of the stars on show under Jody Morris, who now works with another former Blue Frank Lampard at Derby County in the Championship, were introduced in the first team but never really had any substantial amount of time on the pitch among the senior players.
Having spent close to £200 million on the so called established stars from other clubs both local and foreign, Ballack thinks it’s time to start investing in the younger players at the club and throw more faith into them to return Chelsea to glory next season.
It’s not always about the money to be successful it’s also about the strategy. They have a really good youth team that beats everybody. They have good young talent which you can work with. There is quality there. I have seen them myself there.
It’s not always about spending the big money, taking risks, relying on one or two players. Maybe it’s time also to go in a different way for Chelsea.
