Chelsea forward Eden Hazard is Belgium’s captain and has been instrumental in his side’s captivating performances at the World Cup this summer.
He has scored two goals so far in the tournament, both coming against Tunisia while also grabbing three assists, one against Panama and a further two against Tunisia. Being one of Belgium’s best creative players alongside in-form Manchester City attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, Hazard is proud to lead from the front.
He likes to let his feet do the talking on the pitch but can sometimes lash out at his teammates as captain, if they need speaking to.
That was the case with Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, who was lost in the first half of Belgium’s clash with Panama in their first game. Hazard confronted the former Chelsea striker at half time and claims his words with his teammates helped to reignite a positive mentality that stemmed a positive mentality that yielded three goals in the second half.
“I didn’t want to say that I was well within my rights to confront him, because I’m not always right.
But I think we saw a different Romelu in the second half with his two goals [against Panama]. I don’t tend to talk a lot, but if I have to then I’ll do it. There are some players you can be a little more direct with and others you have to approach in a different way.”
