Chelsea have made an enquiry at Real Madrid for their midfielder Mateo Kovacic as they bid to make bid for him this summer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues are willing to make the Serbia international a top midfield target as they hope to bring in alternatives in their midfield. N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas have failed to convince the top hierarchy at the club, they can combine to bring in more trophies in the coming season.
Despite the purchase of Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley in the two previous transfer windows, the Blues still want to add more firepower to their central midfield.
Kovacic is one of the most important players at the Santiago Bernabeu but the midfielder is looking to the Spanish club this summer after playing second fiddle to Toni Kroos and Luka Modric under Zinedine Zidane.
He does not posses the great passing skill of Modric and cannot run as tirelessly as Kante in midfield, but Kovacic will be crucial to Chelsea’s chances next season if his ability to break into the final third of the opposition with slick movements and good vision are utilized well by the next manager to take over Antonio Conte.
