Chelsea face another last minute defeat in transfer window after top striker target is close to joining AC Milan

Chelsea are currently not acting as quickly as many fans expected after last season’s failings under Antonio Conte. After losing out on Aleksander Golovin the way the club did to AS Monaco, the expectation was that Chelsea would expedite their moves for their top targets, but another prime transfer target is expected to move in a different direction.

According to the Evening Standard, AC Milan are closing in on the deal to sign Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, after the Serie A giants made a proposal to offer £16 million as initial loan payment and then explore the option to sign the Argentina international permanently for £32.1 million next summer.

That will unsettle Chelsea’s chiefs who wanted to complete another signing on Maurizio Sarri’s wishlist. The former Napoli coach wants Higuain to come in to replace Alvaro Morata, who still looks out of place at the club.

Chelsea could explore the option of paying the £57 million Juventus are asking for the striker to sign him permanently, as that may convince the Turin giants to do business with them instead of AC Milan, who proposed the one-year loan deal.
