With only a few days to go to the end of the transfer window, this is one of the transfers Chelsea would love to deal with as quickly as possible, so to find adequate replacement for the goalkeeper.
It is a position very tricky to fill, as a club can sign at least one top quality goalkeeper at a time, and the risks involved are immense. If Courtois leaves whoever comes in must be acutely aware of the style and pressures in the Premier League and not many pick up in the first few months. Even Manchester United’s legend in the making David De Gea took six months to adapt.
What Chelsea need is to invite Courtois fast and get his head straight either for the job at hand or let him leave, if he so wishes, because top class goalkeepers are short in supply, as with the end of the transfer window only a matter of hours away, the Blues can be sure very few clubs will let their number ones leave without proper cover.
Football Writer Sid Lowe captures the confusion at Chelsea beautifully insisting, Real Madrid cannot keep both Keylor Navas and Courtois happy while one plays, so with the Blues holding the trump cards, the best way forward is to call for a swap, as that will get everyone what they want.
If the issue with Courtois is that Chelsea need a goalkeeper before letting him go, how about Madrid offering Navas in exchange?
