Chelsea are currently on the brink of signing Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic after several reports in Spain say the Blues will seal a one-year loan deal for the midfielder.
The Blues were initially linked with a permanent signing of the Croatia international but Los Blancos will not let their midfield back up option leave the club permanently despite him wanting more minutes on the pitch.
He is clearly behind Luka Modic, Toni Kroos and Casemiro in the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu and does not see a clear path ahead of him to winning a place ahead of the three favorites. So a deal to move out of the club favors him, but not Real boss Julen Lopetegui who wants world class options to rely on.
Marca now report that Chelsea are favorites to land the former Inter Milan midfielder but the pending for Thibaut Courtois could end up playing an important part in any potential deal.
