Chelsea were very much in desperation mode this summer and were reportedly in the hunt for some top talent, especially in Italy, and after reports linked the Blues with Juventus’ Daniele Rugani, the player’s agent confirms there was an ‘unthinkable’ bid made.
The London club were desperate to grant the wishes of their manager Maurizio Sarri, and were keen to bring in as many of his targets as possible, after going close to landing some Napoli stars this summer, only to be blocked by the Serie club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis, as revealed by the Express.
Chelsea had other targets though, including Juventus’ Daniele Rugani, who is tipped for greatness in Italy. The young center back is highly rated in Serie A and Sarri is thought to have wanted to work with him at Napoli, and was equally keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
According to Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, Chelsea went in full force for his client only for Juventus to say no.
“Juventus have no desire to sell him, not even for a high price which, among other things, no-one in Italy could afford. However, the player has never asked to leave. Only when a very important offer arrives is it normal to listen, but Juventus have rejected all kinds of offers to keep him in Turin.
Chelsea made a really big bid, which was close to being unthinkable for me, but Juventus didn’t relent [Sami] Khedira played only 10 more games than Daniele last season. I think Rugani can play even more this season.”
