Chelsea are putting their players through several training and fitness tests to get them up to the levels required to last the entire season, playing high octane football their new manager is introducing at the club.
Maurizio Sarri’s high pressing and attacking football means his players would need to maintain a good level of stamina and endurance and the club have invested in a VO2 max test to help identify players maximum oxygen intake which in turn tells the player’s endurance capacity.
Sarri is making sure his players will be ready for his extreme demands during games. Against Arsenal last weekend, Chelsea’s players looked jaded in the last few minutes of the first half, largely due to the high pressure football they began the game with.
