Why Ruben Loftus-Cheek must leave Chelsea or suffer dire consequences

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is currently considered one of the most promising players in English football but his career at Chelsea has looked everything but.

The England international, who excelled last season at Crystal Palace, has seen very limited time as a first team player at Chelsea before and after his loan stint at the Selhurst Park. Having broken out in Jose Mourinho’s second spell at the club, Loftus-Cheek struggled in the season to follow before heading to join Roy Hodgson’s side, where he showed class and quality in the Eagles midfield to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad to the 2018 World Cup.

Back at Chelsea, the 22-year old battles with the same old story. He faces top class players who just will not give him any chance of getting the required amount of minutes he needs at this stage of his career to develop. He faces a tough challenge with summer signing Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley who has recently reignited his Blues career under Maurizio Sarri and the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas who would also have something to say about who gets the nod in the position ahead of Jorginho and alongside N’Golo Kante.

Loftus-Cheek is a fine player and one of the academy products the club’s fans and top officials all root for to find success at the club, but at the moment Sarri is in no mood to experiment and almost certainly, he will not.
