Chelsea’s rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur took an interesting twist during the transfer window, as the Blues rejected a bid from Spurs for Tammy Abraham, according to Goal.
That decision meant Spurs finished the transfer window with nothing in their shopping cart after a rather dull period of attempting to bring in more players to better their squad.
Mauricio Pochettino may have thought he could snap up Chelsea’s youngster right at the end of the window but Chelsea had other ideas. The six-time Premier League champions rejected a bid of £25 million from Spurs for the 20-year old.
They planned to use Abraham as a cover for Harry Kane with last summer signing Fernando Llorente failing to prove himself at the club last season after scoring five goals in 31 appearances for Spurs.
With Michy Batshuayi sent out on loan to Valencia for the entire season, Olivier Giroud and Abraham remain as cover for Alvaro Morata in the first team and Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law explains why in his tweet a few weeks ago.
Strange for Sarri not to look at him. But he will fetch a bigger loan fee than Abraham and Abraham will presumably be less concerned at being on the bench. https://t.co/TqocuHPqsr
