Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has not featured for most part of this year under two managers and was expected to pack his bags, but reports now indicate that the player will not leave the club this summer.
According to the Telegraph, the central defender is not ready to leave the club he has been at since 2012, when he signed from Bolton Wanderers, and has told the club’s chiefs he would rather remain in London and fight for a spot in the Blues starting line up.
Maurizio Sarri has gone with David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger this season in all of Chelsea’s Premier League games with Andreas Christensen and Cahill backing them up. That seems unsatisfying for Cahill who was not considered a starter in England’s 2018 World Cup campaign either.
A move to Galatasaray emerged on Monday but Cahill is not determined to join the Turkish giants and would rather wait until January and explore his options if remaining at Chelsea doesn’t bode well for his career at 32-years old.
