Former Juventus boss gives one top reason why it was ‘absurd’ that Chelsea hired Sarri to replace Conte

Chelsea have brought in the manager of their choice this season and beyond to replace Antonio Conte after the tumultuous period that the former manager endured in his last few months at the club.

He was never expected to keep his job beyond the summer and even after reporting back to training in pre-season during the summer, the club still sacked him and brought in Maurizio Sarri. He was the club’s choice. The fans loved the decision and thought the best way to move forward as a club was to bring in Sarri, who had won no silverware but had led Napoli to play the best football in Europe, according to many pundits who watched them closely.

Sarri’s start at Chelsea has been brilliant, winning all three Premeir League games and scoring eight goals in the process but not everyone is getting excited yet, and ex-Juventus chief Luciano Moggi is one of them. Moggi says Conte and Sarri’s contrasting styles made the decision to hire the latter ‘absurd’ for the Blues.

“Depending on the players at the club. It’s absurd to hire Sarri at Chelsea after they played with Conte for two years.

At Napoli, after Sarri, Carlo Ancelotti or Fabio Capello would go well because they play unified football. It wouldn’t be as good with Conte or Marcelo Lippi.”
