Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has made great strides in his career and could have easily been in a Real Madrid shirt had he even slightly pushed for the move, but he remains a Chelsea player even against the hopes and wishes of his national team coach.
Roberto Martinez has revealed Hazard could have been a Real Madrid player after the La Liga club reached out, but chose to stay at Chelsea and flourish under Maurizio Sarri’s new brand of football at Stamford Bridge.
Hazard is considered one of the best players in the world and many thought after a World Cup like he had, in Russia, he would jump ship into the most prestigious in the world, Real Madrid. Even his international manager, Martinez, wanted that too but Hazard clung to Chelsea and Martinez says he knows the player will give his best under the Italian tactician and will show his quality in games this season:
“It is not bad news that he has stayed in England. When Real wants to sign you, you can tell yourself, ‘This is the chance of a lifetime’.
But Eden did not see it that way. Chelsea had Sarri come in and I understand that the club did not want to lose its best player. It is logical he is a wanted man. Eden is a good lad. He accepted the position and will perform this season.
He said staying is not bad. But to say that is only one thing. The most important thing is what he shows on the field. I saw Chelsea’s third goal against Arsenal and I knew enough. After such a World Cup, it was certainly a good time for Eden Hazard to take up a new challenge. Sarri’s arrival is good for Eden. He is ready for the new challenge and the new manager at Chelsea.”
