Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has been in devastating form and these days without watching a game, a Chelsea fan can predict if Alonso contributed to a goal.
The Spain international has been in explosive form this season, either scoring goals or being heavily involved in their creation. Most importantly, his contributions, either scoring or assisting have provided wins for the Blues in their first four games.
Against Huddersfield he set up Pedro for the second goal when their opponents could have easily pegged them back and swung the game around. Against Arsenal, he stepped up and scored the winning goal late in the second half and same was true for the third game against Newcastle United although he wasn’t credited with the goal after the touch by Yedlin. In Chelsea’s fourth, Alonso stepped up again, this time with an assist to setup Hazard for the goal that killed off Bournemouth.
His head coach Sarri, is convinced Alonso will become key in Chelsea’s fight for the title and predicts the former Sunderland full back will become the best in the world.
“Alonso, at the moment, in this position at left-back is maybe the best in Europe. [His] physical qualities are at a top level, I think. He’s doing very well in the offensive phase.
But I also think he can improve in the defensive phase. If he improves that, he could be the best left-back in the world.”
