Eden Hazard and Willian celebrate goal vs Brighton

“Hazard, Pedro, Willian, all in the same position – I am very lucky” – Maurizio Sarri reveals joy at having stars at his disposal

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has revealed his joy at having to choose from a wealth of options in his attack with Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Victor Moses and Callum Hudson-Odoi all competing for the two spots behind the main striker.

The Blues are structured to play  a 4-3-3 formation this season under their new head coach and that means two wingers flanking the main central striker. Hazard has over the last two games this season been the starter on the left after Pedro and Willian took those positions in the first two.

Against Bournemouth last Saturday, Sarri went with the combination of Hazard and Willian and introduced Pedro in the second half to a great effect. The Spain international scored Chelsea’s first goal before Hazard doubled the lead to give Chelsea a 2-0 win.

Having performed so well in the beginning of the season, Pedro is set to give Willian some competition for the role on the right, as Hazard automatically slots in on the left of attack. Sarri says this makes him a ‘lucky man’.

“Pedro played the first three games in the starting XI but today I thought it was better to play with Willian. I am lucky because any coach who can choose between Pedro and Willian is a lucky coach.

Pedro is a great player. I think in every season he has scored about 15 goals, so it is normal for him to score. Hazard, Pedro, [Victor] Moses, Willian, all in the same position – I am very lucky and I don’t want to forget [Callum] Hudson-Odoi.”
