Chelsea’s marquee summer signing in 2017 Alvaro Morata has revealed the agonizing experience he had to endure last season when he failed to hit the goal scoring mark expected of him.
The striker signed from Real Madrid and immediately hit the ground running with early goals in the Premier League. He scored his first goal on his debut against Burnley and went on to grab another nine by the end of the year. But his form in the second half of the season was nothing to write home about.
Morata failed to score until April when he converted against Tottenham Hotspur to hand him only 11 goals in the Premier League season.
That was far from the 20-goal expectation at his doorstep and Morata was sometimes lost on the pitch as he reveals in his latest interview with Goal.
“Last year, I wasn’t happy. I started well, but at the end it was a disaster. I went out to the pitch and did not [even] know where I was. I considered returning to Spain or Italy.
But you can’t always escape reality. I left Spain to earn a place at the World Cup, and I did not go.”

This season, the former Juventus striker has been given another chance by Maurizio Sarri and with a new attacking philosophy the team plays with, his one goal against Arsenal could be the fresh beginning he had hoped for.
