“Great as a human” – David Luiz sings praises of Maurizio Sarri’s style of management at Chelsea

Chelsea defender David Luiz has sung the praises of his new head coach Maurizio Sarri after the Italian manager restored some confidence in the defender this season.

It is no wonder that Luiz finds praise for Sarri only four games into the Premier League season. The Brazil international has played every match, starting at the expense of Gary Cahill and the budding Andreas Christensen.

The 33-year old has refound his confidence after his troubling season last term. Luiz was relegated to the bench and was at times not even seen in the matchday squad as Antonio Conte went for youth and discipline at the back. Sarri prefers the more expressive way of playing from the back and Luiz fits the bill well.

It is not just the belief he has in Luiz that makes the former Paris Saint Germain defender so happy about the former Napoli’s tactician’s time at Chelsea, it is how Sarri makes the whole team tick and his attention to detail.

“First of all he’s a great person, great as a human. I think his philosophy to live life is already great because he wants to enjoy every day, he wants to be happy and he wanted to take this opportunity to start one more chapter in his life. I think that is one of the most important things in life; when you love to do something, when you’re happy.

So, I believe in this philosophy, and then after that he is a great coach. He wants to play with the ball, he wants to play with intensity, to work on the details and to give us all the information he can about the next game and the opponent. Every week he tries to make the best plan possible for the exact game and this is great because he is working in the best way for the team, for the collective.”

Sarri has a 100 per cent record in the Premier League so far with wins over Huddersfield, Arsenal, Newcastle and Bournemouth.
