Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has told Chelsea fans not to expect a better finish than third this season as he maintains his Blues team remain behind Liverpool and Manchester City in quality.
The three sides are tipped for a three-horse race this season in the English Premier League but despite the unbeaten start to the season by Chelsea, their head coach remains humble. Sarri has led Chelsea to five wins and two draws in their first seven games of the season and Chelsea remain close to the favorites for the title but the Italian tactician is not getting ahead of himself.
Following the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday, the former Napoli boss has revealed his Chelsea side are getting better but cannot break the two top sides in English football this season
Chelsea finished outside the top four places last season and have made qualifying for the Champions League this season a priority in this campaign and despite some pundits and fans remaining optimistic that the Blues can challenge for the title judging by their terrific start, Sarri calls for calm in his assertion of how his team will cope.
“To finish the first two, as you know, for me it’s very difficult. I think City and Liverpool are a step forward to us. It’s very difficult. But I think we can fight to get in the Champions League. Here it’s very difficult to arrive in the first four.
There are six, seven top-level teams, top in Europe, not only in England. It’s not easy to get in the Champions League. We have to try of course. We have to try to stay very close on the table with the top-level teams. And we have to try to improve more. I think they are a step forward, but I think also we are more close than I thought one week ago.”
