Chelsea fans did not wake up to the best news on Monday when Eden Hazard admitted he was willing to move out of London to play for his ‘dream’ club Real Madrid in Spain.
The speculation had gone on for a considerable while and after Hazard’s brilliance at the 2018 World Cup for Belgium, he was expected to push through a move out of Chelsea, but he did not. He respected the club and the fans during the period and stayed put. But after his shockingly strong start to the season, scoring seven goals in eight appearances, the Belgium international has admitted he wants to play for Los Blancos.
According to Cadena SER, Real’s top officials will pounce on Chelsea for Hazard in January as they look to take advantage of his contract situation at the club. The 27-year old’s contract expires in the summer of 2020 and the Blues risk losing him for free if he refuses to sign an extension to the deal.
Real will have nothing to lose if they make the move early next year, as that will give them a fair idea of how the transfer could pan out in the summer, judging from Hazard’s reaction to an official bid. If successful, Hazard can also play for them in the Champions League after the major change by UEFA in the competition about playing for two clubs in one season.
