Chelsea winger Willian has admitted he and his teammates must try harder to take the burden off Eden Hazard after the Blues struggled to pick a point against Manchester United last Saturday.
Chelsea were dominant throughout the game in almost every sector, but for goalscoring. Maurizio Sarri’s side created considerably more chances than Manchester United but were rather trailing for the most part of the second half until the final minute when Ross Barkley rifled in a shot from close range to give Chelsea a point.
Hazard was seen trying to get past players and making moves to galvanize Chelsea’s attacks but was mostly fruitless due to the tactics employed by Jose Mourinho to ensure there were at least two or three men on the Belgium international each time he had the ball.
Willian confesses he and his teammates can do better to take the pressure and burden off their talismanic forward.
“We know how important Hazard is for us, but we have a great team with a lot of quality players. Sometimes he can’t score or make an assist, that’s why we need the whole team. Sometimes he tries and it doesn’t work. The other players have to work together to try and do something with each other. Against Manchester United was like that. He tried to score, he tried to dribble.
They put two-three players around him every time he had the ball and maybe that was why it was difficult for him. Will teams look to target him? Yes of course – when a game is like that they look at him, but it means others can find more space.”
